Telecom Arnet Donates Hairplugs for New Broadband Customers

bald_todos.jpg

Argentina's Telecom Arnet got into the holiday spirit and went into charity this month. Juan Manuel Fraga, a decade or two past his sexual prime and balding all the while, serves as the poster child for Todos Por un Pelo. For every new customer who signed up for broadband in November, Fraga got a hair implant courtesy of Arnet and a Canadian clinic run by Dr. Tomas Ballve.

We're not even sure how to approach this but the shit was funny. We would totally have jumped at the chance to sign up for broadband in Argentina if we could watch those hairplugs get pulled out one by one. Maybe that can be a follow-up campaign.

Comcast Gets Random - Kind of Like Geico

comcast_mermen.jpg

A cable company pitch is a cable company pitch is a cable company pitch. But in Geico's signature style, Comcast is throwing out a little off-colour, slightly befuddling humour to add some shuffle to the deck.

The bowling mermen serve as good representatives of what we're seeing from Comcast lately. And if Youtube is any indication, people think it's awesome. So here's to thinking outside the box and into someone else's playbook. - Contributed by Angela Natividad

McDonald's Games, Hipsters Posture, Caveman Does TV

atienza_sneakers.jpg

- The Midnight Gaming Championship final, title sponsored by McDonald's, is taking place this Saturday, Nov. 18. The event will feature 24 of the best gamers from around Dallas/Fort Worth and the country, including Crow, the number one Tekken player in the world, and Jenmaster, one of the top five most dangerous gamers.

- Here's a video by Owen Plotkin that features Art Directors Club Yong Guns winner Jayson Atienza talking about his sneaker art show opening. We know it's supposed to be "arty" but it seems Owen had great difficulty focusing on people's faces in the video. Not to mention the poor lighting.

- One of the Geico Cavemen, John Lehr will appear in two new spots and a new TBS series 10 Items Or Less premiering November 27.

- Marketing and creative staffing firm Aquent has partnered with celumsolutions to offer up digital asset management software to marketing firms.

- Copyranter says "there's pee in your butt" and points to an element of the latest Truth campaign which, though sticker on ads, informs us cigarettes contain animal pee. Fun.

VH1 and IFILM, today, is bringing back Show Us Your Junk, a collection of the best viral videos

Time Warner, Dewar's Force Ad Views On DVR

1984_orwell.jpg

Apparently, Dewar's and Time Warner Cable are in cahoots and have made a currently running Dewar's ad unskipable during playback. Several Radar Online employees have reported their Time Warner CVRs simply refuse to fast forward through the ad. The unit will fast forward through anything else but not the Dewar's ad. Can anyone say "1984 by George Orwell?"

UPDATE: Despite it occurring over and over among many peole, it's just a technical glitch that has to do with fixed text on he screen for an extended length of time as in the Dewar's commercial.

singing_cowboy3.jpg

The American Legacy Foundation, fresh out of its legal battles with the tobacco industry and in partnership with Arnold Worldwide, and Crispin Porter + Bogusky, has launched a new campaign entitled Infect Truth. The campaign consists of TV spots - airing on MTV, Comedy Central, G4 Tech TV, BET and others - and print as well as a host of digital elements including "Infections" in the form of screensavers, video, desktop themes, games and stickers all filled with juicy facts such as cigarettes containing sodium hydroxide, the same ingredient found in hair removal products. Cox Sports Rebrands, Bobbits Appendage From Name

cst.jpg

Perhaps because it's been the butt of dick jokes for so long or on-air personalities could no longer say "Cox" with a straight face, Cox Sports Television has neutered itself and will now be know as CST. Regional Sports and Network Head (yes that's his real title) Rod Mickler explained the change saying, "The updated CST has been designed to maximize the viewer's experience while offering the same reliable, entertaining and up-to-the-minute sports coverage our CST viewers have come to expect." The folks over at Priority PR apparently nixed an earlier quote in which Mickler may have said, "We don't know how Dick Butkus does it but we just can't stand one more 'Cox Excited Over Quarterly Revenue Explosion' or 'Cox Expands With Erection of New Office Tower' headline"

Juliet Lewis Goes Nuts, Justin Timberlake Botches Danish

juliet_mtv_copengagen.jpg

MTV is hyping its MTV Europe Music Awards in Copenhagen hosted by Justin Timberlake and its Backstage show hosted by Juliette Lewis and the Lick with a series of videos in which Justin botches the Danish language, Juliet smashes a computer while logging on and another in which she tells everyone to fucking log on. There's four videos in all (fourth one here) and for some strange reason, we like them.

Awkward PR Photos Part of Versus NHL Promotion

versus_hockey.jpg

It has to be a bitch to pose for all those awkward photos your PR department demands from you but that's just how it goes when you're trying (begging?) to build interest in the kick off of the NHL hockey season. So here we have Versus (formerly OLN) President, Gavin Harvey and SVP of Programming Marc Fein outside Icecalibur in New York graciously obliging the PR folk at an event that offered autographed hockey sticks and various prizes such as $10,000 in cash, tickets to the Stanley Cup or tickets to the All Star Game to anyone who could pull a stick out of the ice block.
