Mary Meeker has just published her 2019 Internet Trends Report, and analysts all over the world are still digging through it to take away the parts that they can use and adapt for their businesses. In among all the statistics though - which included the revelation that for the first time in human history, there are now more people with access to the internet than without - there was a key point she drew attention to about the concept of 'freemium' marketing. A lot of people probably ignored it, because on the surface it sounded like she was talking about the popular 'Fortnite.' In reality, it might have been the single most crucial part of the whole report.

In the past several years, native advertising has risen to the top of the online marketing conversation. And, for the most part, it's done so because other forms of online advertising have failed miserably. But native advertising, for all its popularity and success, has brought with it a very dark side; the blurring of editorial church and state.
To some, this blurring is no big deal. To others -- the smart ones, it is the downfall of society as we know it. Some approaches to native advertising have resulted in worthwhile, informative, education and helpful content readers can consider valuable. Other native advertising efforts -- sadly, most -- have resulted in poorly written, spammy, listicle, brochure-like content that irks, annoys and just plain sucks.

All we can say is thank God there was no turbulence during this flight. Otherwise Alexander's plan to ask for her hand and marry Marieke mid-flight wouldn't have ended up and beautiful as it did.
Under the guise of winning a girls-only trip for two, Marieke takes a trip with her friend courtesy of Thomas Cook Travel Belgium. What, you thought this was just an organic stunt? Not a chance. Not with all the planning that had to go into it. Thomas Cook funded it and the airline and family were in on the whole stunt. Even the ring and the dress were picked out for Marieke.

Questionable? Brilliant?
This Olympics-focused editorial series is written by Ronald Urbach, Chairman of law firm Davis & Gilbert LLP and the co-chair of the Advertising, Marketing & Promotions Practice Group at the firm.
Much of what we hear as we read the reports of the Olympics is: how many medals? It appears that the media is compelled to quantify success, sort of like an Olympic box score. Is the US leading in the total medal count? Is the US leading in gold medals? How many medals does China have? Will Great Britain, the host country, finally begin to rack up the medals? As I write this article, the US is leading in total overall medals, though not in gold. Great Britain is coming on strong - now in third, and Andy Murray beat Roger Federer for the coveted gold in men's tennis.
But to advertisers and agencies, the medal count pales next to the critical question - who will be the breakout advertising spokesperson of the 2012 Olympics? Will anyone rise to the level of a true advertising superstar?

In what looks, at first, like yet another demonstration of an auto manufacturer's obsession with proving its vehicles are high performance race cars even though that speed and agility is never needed on public roadways, DDB Spain has created an interesting promotional sponsorship device for Audi's association with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
The two teams, both of which have Audi as an official vehicle sponsor, are set to go head to head next Saturday, December 10 in the Spanish Derbi. A video, which looks like a couple of Audis just drifting around a few pylons turns out to be a pretty ingenious approach at creating a layout for an ad which ultimately appeared in print. Watch the video to see the result.
