Google -- Yes, Google -- Premiers Radiohead's 'House of Cards'

google-radiohead.jpg

Aside from being the first-ever music video to debut courtesy of your friendly neighborhood search and ad giant, it is also the first video ever to be shot without cameras. Only lasers and scanners were used, which is why Thom Yorke looks kind of like a sonogram.

Watch House of Cards -- better yet, "interact" with it on Google. There's also a making-of video that talks about Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR, the technology used to capture all the imagery in 3D.

Directed by James Frost of Zoo Films.

Bad Enough to Be Made of Yarn; Without Bones, You're at a Serious Disadvantage in Combat

crochette-doll-rubber-thumb.jpg

Having watched an orange puppet space-jump through hipster internet companies via magic Rolodex, I figured my quota for toys-appropriated-by-inane-advertising had been hit for the night.

Then I saw "Crochette Doll vs. Little Rubber Thumb," which continues a really random milk campaign that I thought was mildly hilarious until tonight. (It might just be my current state of repressed rage. I bet when I wake up tomorrow I'll watch this crochette doll/rubber thumb crap and exclaim, "a rip-rollicking riot! TWO THUMBS UP! HAR!" But I doubt it.)

Put together by Bent Image Labs for Tribal DDB, Canada.

Where Sharp TVs Lack Sex Appeal, They Compensate in Enchanted Cardboard

sharp-life-changing-box.jpg

So you've got a line of HDTVs. Yeah, well, so do all your rivals, and LG stole the promotional bacon with its campy-as-shit Scarlet campaign. How do you compete with the TV that compared itself to a red dress?

If you're Sharp, you'll promote the box.

Check out the Life Changing Box by Lowe Worldwide. Give each icon a poke to get something new out of the square brown wonder. The site loads slow as hell, but the results are, I don't know, educational. (Click on the beaker for a cartoon about the birth of LCD. Niftaaay.)

Gary the Puppet Travels the 'Net with Help from a Magical Rolodex

gary-the-puppet.jpg

Watch while a refugee from the Sesame Street prop chest gets zapped into the offices of Next Net Networks, Tumblr, Gawker, College Humor and CBS Interactive. The story's moral involves throwing saucy parties and engaging users with authentic videos, but this line is priceless:

"I knew I shouldn't have left out that magical Rolodex. The power of our connections is just way too strong."

Put together for Media Kitchen and Venture Day. Kinda brings Puppet Agency to mind, except that was funnier. I'm sure all those internet companies got a buzz out of seeing themselves on video, though.

Danish Cancer Commercial Uplifts But Steals Happy Ending

danicsh_cancer_2.jpg

It's really too bad this Danish Cancer Society commercial has such a ridiculously lame ending because, well, until that lame ending, it's really quite excitingly uplifting to watch.

Humanitarian Lion, Honda Capitalizes on BMW Video

Cirque_du_Soleil_AirTran_Say_Yes_Orlando.jpg

- AirTran (who knew they were still in business?) this week unveiled its "Say Yes to Orlando" plane, with help from La Nouba by Cirque du Soliel, to promote special airfares and its discount flights to Orlando.

- The folks behind the Humanitarian Lion, after a "you'll have to do better than that" comment from Adland, are out with a more complete print ad for their effort to urge Cannes and the advertising industry to become something a bit more substantial than a pretty picture competition.

- Just because you upload your ad to YouTube doesn't mean competitors won't be atop, below and beside it.

BzzAgent to Guarantee Word of Mouth Works

buzz_agent_logo.jpg

In either a desperate move to build buzz for a medium no one's talking about any more or a confidant move in support of its belief in word of mouth marketing, BzzAgent is offering advertisers a refund if their campaign with BzzAgent outperforms other media by 20 percent. To participate, brands must spend $300,000 across WOM and other media.

Mr. T Eradicates World of Goofy Speedwalkers

mr_t_snickers.jpg

Uh oh. The cause group for...speedwalkers is going to get their jockstraps in a twist over this new AMV BBDO-created Get Some Nuts commercial (higher quality Quicktime here) for Snickers in which Mr. T, atop a Mad Max-style pick up truck, shoots Snicker bars at a speedwalker using a Gatling gun. While hurling bars at the walker, Mr. T lets lose his usual "I pity the fool" tirade telling the walker he's a "disgrace to the man race" and that it's time to "run like a real man."

While most would prefer to rid the streets of these goofy walkers for fear they will unduly influence their children into adopting the goofiness that is speedwalking, it won't be surprising if some speedwalking fanatics make their way to Mars headquarters and slingshot, en mass, their jockstraps at the building pummeling executives into submission.

Federated Media Packs Banner With Features And It Works

federated_banner.jpg

Here's an ad banner that packs a lot into a small space. In tandem with the promotion of green energy site ReGeneration and it's tie in with the Dell Graffiti Facebook contest, Federated Media created an ad unit that incorporates a video player which shows the winning designs, rotating headlines from the ReGeneration site and a "more" button which delivers a slide up menu with options to share, subscribe, embed or download.

It's a lot of functionality built into one banner but it works very nicely. After one of the design videos plays, the viewer is presented with thumbnails of the other winners which, if clicked, will play within the banner.

Hottie Carrie Underwood Makes Men Want to be Small

carrie_underwood_vitamin_water.jpg

The men in this Vitamin Water commercial featuring country singer Carrie Underwood are so enamored with her ability to horse whisper sweet nothings to small things, they all want to be...miniature. Not exactly the way most men think but for those not so fortunate men who are on the miniature side of things, they are, no doubt, plenty pleased the very desirable Carrie Underwood has a thing for...small things.
