It's Hard to Swing Camp if You're Part of the Joke.

sprint-instinct.jpg

Hoping to tap into disdain for cheesy film cliches, Sprint chose Union Editorial to refine a set of movie trailer-style spots. The star? Sprint Instinct.*

In "Launch," a couple outruns cops in a high-impact car chase. Mr. Man looks stressed; meanwhile, Wifey buys a handbag on her phone and has it sent to their hideout -- leading the captors right to them.

In "Romance," one woman wants it all -- not from a man, but from her carrier -- as friends beg her to be more realistic.

Here's another dubbed "Horror," and one just for theaters ("Cinema"). We saw it before The Dark Knight and it totally chafed our pop sensibilities.

If you're feeling deja-vu (in addition to that mild burning sensation), it's for a reason. To promote its Scarlet TVs, LG did more with the same campy idea.

Blue Cross Makes Pets Talk

strange-talking-dog.jpg

Seriously. And they have accents.

Put together by WWAV Rapp Collins London, the destination lets you stuff human vocal chords into one of the pets available, or upload a shot of your own pet. A "virtual newshound" reads news headlines from its host site.

All this is to promote All About Pets, a British pet charity run by The Blue Cross. (The site's really nice: soothing colors and curvy corners and tags and widgets. Petcare has come a long way.)

Singing Dog Used to Push Flea Control

no-bugs-dog-camp.jpg

There may be bugs on some of you mugs, but there ain't no bugs on me. Total rip on the old Meowmix ads, but it's so catchy. Way to grow on the brain stem like a fungus, K9 Advantix.

Apparently this dog, which has had about three months to drive you ballistic every time you switch the TV on, has a name. It's Champ. And he's on Facebook, inviting you to camp.

Who sends their dogs to camp?

Maybe It's a Think Piece on Life

love-guru-what.jpg

Somebody sent us a link to El Lobo Rojo, an online video series that's airing all summer long.

Mostly it's just random shit, sort of like SickAnimation except nobody has a penis for a head, and nothing is funny. A guy sets his fake mustache on fire. Then some dude gets fired for not removing his tattoos. And then the prick that fires him sits around, talking schizophrenic nonsense through a promotional poster for The Love Guru.

If this is all we have to look forward to, please bring Dr. Horrible back.

Microsoft: If You Can't Win 'Em, Trick 'Em

vista-user.jpg

Under the premise that if people could experience Vista firsthand, they'd love it, Microsoft decided to bamboozle a bunch of Vista-haters with The Mojave Experiment.

Groups of users were invited to try Mojave, the "newest version of Windows." After showering Vista with opinions of disdain, they gave Mojave a go and lavished it with compliments. Then they were told it was Vista.

According to Greenpeace, Even Trees Have Sex

tree_porn.jpg

OK, so this has been covered everywhere but it isn't news until it appears on Adrants. Oops. Sorry about that pompous attitude. Just read a Bob Garfield article and it must have had an undue influence. Anyway, Greenpeace, much like PETA, often resorts to sensationalistic tactics when it comes to its advertising campaigns. This recent bit of tree hugging is no different.

Nothing Says HP Like a Ditz Who Can't Operate a Shower

1217380993828.JPEG

HP's latest online video campaign, aimed at the back-to-school crowd, launches with "Shaun White and Friends Fight to Help Shower Hottie." Created by Feed Company, the piece (which reeks of Axe) begins and ends with cheap fortune cookie wisdom: Practice Random Acts of Chivalry.

This from the same people that brought us "Hands" and "Maestro"? You gotta be kidding.

Adrants Defends Coverage of Huge McDonald's Story

kimbigmac.jpg

Dear AdFreak,

Say what? Adrants not interested in a story about McDonald's hanging with celebrities to celebrate the 40th birthday of the McDonald's Bic Mac? Not interested in Lauren Condrad and Kim Kardashian bulging out of her top from all sides? Not interested in writing a story purely for gratuitous reasons? Not interested in offering up an image of Kim Kardashian over which horny male ad sluts can drool and then nonchalantly excuse themselves to the men's room?

Real French Fries Shame Fake Breasts

NYF_Busty.jpg

Riffing on the increasingly fake aspects of culture from implants to injections to extensions, Toronto agency Zig created a print campaign for New York Fries which draws a dichotomy between fakeness and the all natural goodness of New York Fries.

Witty campaign but what's really sad is the fact an actual ad campaign is needed to sell something that is supposed to be fried potatoes and nothing else. Food - and everything else in this world - has become so processed, hardly anything is real anymore.

For example, breasts. Big breasts are great. Every woman seems to want them and every man seems to want to ogle and fondle them. Fine. Nothing wrong with obsessing over big breasts (well, OK, maybe it is a bit degrading to reduce a woman to a body part) but fake big breasts are exactly that. Fake. Not real. They don't look real. They don't feel real. They aren't attractive to look at. They aren't real. And fake isn't fun.

Neither are fake French Fries. Two other fake-focused ads are here and here.
