pop-up-india.jpg

- Crocs launched a travel site, Cities by Foot. Designated Crocs-wearers explore cities like Denver, New Orleans, San Francisco and Vail. Every once in awhile you get a close-up shot of their feet.

- This guy travels to India to remedy his PC pop-up problem. Hijinks ensue. My favourite line: "Just tell them to unplug it, and PLUG IT AGAIN!" Cut to the song.

- Apparently 50 Cent is social media savvy.

- The British government tries scare tactics to keep kids away from knives. They also plan to give out postcards featuring mutilated body parts.

Shake Off that Cartoon Crush; Erin Esurance Has a Steady

erin-esurance-pwrfl.jpg

Emo heartthrob Kazutaka Nomura of PWRFL POWER gets animated, woos the uncatchable Erin Esurance, and teaches her a powerful lesson about self-esteem. In song.

Not that she needed it. She does, after all, prance around in spy clothes to sell car insurance.

This is part of a partnership between Esurance and the Monolith Music Festival at Red Rocks. The website, linked above, also includes a bio and an interview with PWRFL POWER, as well as tour dates.

Dancing Supermodels and Nipple Electrocution Pay Off

amp-fatman.jpg

Well, once again, it just goes to show the perennially pointless, annual natter-fest over which Super Bowl spots scored and which didn't is, well, perennially pointless. Recent Q1 numbers from Pepsi show its Amp and SoBe brands, which ran two of the worst scoring ads, according to many, in this year's game, are doing just fine.

Drinking Too Much Makes Women Ugly. Men? Doesn't Matter

6194_DrunkWoman_DASL-1.jpg

Here's an interesting one. Apparently, drinking alcohol makes women ugly. A TBWA\London-created campaign for the Drug and Alcohol Service takes advantage of that apparent fact in a new campiagn that focuses on the ugly-inducing side effects of consuming too much alcohol since, you know, women care more about how good they look than how healthy they are.

Oh yes. In our double standard-addled world where men don't give a crap what they look like but all women must be a perfectly smooth-skinned 36DDD-24-36, we won't be seeing an "ugly man" version of this campaign any time soon.

Skydivers to Spell 'Honda' On Live Commercial Break

HondaAd460.jpg

Tonight, at 8:10PM on London's Channel 4, 19 skydivers will spend three minutes and 20 seconds attempting to spell out the word Honda in Britain's first live commercial. part of Honda's ongoing skydiving campaign, the ad will appear during the reality show Come Dine With Me and, as Honda Manager of Customer Communications said, "If it works, people will know who it's for. If it doesn't, they won't." Brave simplicity. Nice.

Here's hoping all 19 parachutes open successfully after the crew finishes its spelling exercise. Damn, it's almost that time there right now! Someone send us the video!

Here's the video.

Those Idiots that Apply Makeup While Driving? They're Glam Users.

applying-makeup-glam.jpg

I saw this graphic on the Glam Media website today. It was part of a rolling series of images intended to give advertisers a sense of the Glam audience.

Okay, Glam. It's one thing to seduce media folk with deceptive slideshow pictures of models. But a woman putting on makeup while in transit -- and on a moped, no less? (See Vespa mirrors.) That's not just a vapid lifestyle statement; it's stupid and dangerous.

< sarcasm > Way to go, you sassy women's network, you. < / sarcasm >

Fun fact: Glam Media was ranked the #1 online women's network last year.

Stand Up to Cancer Gets 'We Are the World' Celebu-Treatment

psa_caffleck.jpg

Not usually a fan of weepy PSA's for cancer, this one from non-profit Stand Up to Cancer directed by David Fincher and voiced by Sydney Poitier caught my attention if only to make sure I could pick out all the celebrities that pop up in the ad. Sydney Poitier, Christy Turlington, Susan Sarandon, NYC Mayor Mike Bloomberg, Morgan Freeman, Lance Armstrong, Keanu Reeves, Tobey Maguire, Casey Affleck, and Jodie Foster are in there. Can you spot more?

Crocs Alligator Bites Tail of Shark That Jumped It, Succeeds

crocs_scream.jpg

The beauty, and success, of Crocs shoes (no, we never owned a pair, thank God) came mostly from word of mouth and the desire to be cool because you wore strange looking shoes that squeaked. It's sort of like the Flip Video camera which used to be packaged in those impossible-to-open, hermetically sealed plastic packages that hung from hooks in Wal-Mart until it experienced a Web 2.0, "Must. Vlog. That.", iJustine-fueled rebirth.
