Last night Boston's Mullen won the Ad Club's Best of Show for their JetBlue work. The agency won for a video series called Ground Rules, which used hidden cameras in a variety of urban settings to demonstrate the idiotic ways competing airlines treat their passengers. All of the videos show unsuspecting consumers getting increasingly frustrated, and they close with the thought "If you wouldn't take it on the ground, then don't take it in the air" hoping to convey the notion JetBlue treats passengers better.
Arnold took home a total of 84 awards, Mullen nabbed 56, Hill Holliday grabbed 40 and Allen & Gerritsen won 25. Marketer of the Year was awarded to Zildjian

Fifteen year old Kendall Jenner, half sister to the Kardashians, is appearing in a new campaign for Australian swimwear brand White Sands. In the campaign, Jenner will appear wearing a low cut, cleavage-baring one piece and a floral bikini. It's all to promote the brand's Spring/Summer collection.
If you're into 15 year olds, there's much more of Kendall to see here. Is 15 too young to parade around scantily-clothed for an ad campaign? Should girls be required to wear burlap sacks until the age of 18?
UK-based ActionAid has released a stirring addressing the plight of women in Afghanistan. On the eve of reconciliation with the Taliban, the video shares the opinions of women who have lived with war during the last ten years.
Though 66 percent of Afghan women do feel safer than they did ten years ago, 86 percent of women are fearful of what a Taliban-style government might mean for them. And a woman who set herself on fire at age 18 says, "I had suffered so much abuse from my husband and my in-laws that I could not take it anymore."
That's not exactly a good life for women is it?
The video is part of an ActionAid campaign to call attention to the tenth anniversary of U.S. and British intervention in Afghanistan.

Hmm. We are told the new face of fashion brand ghd Katy Perry is supposed to be some sort of 1920's flapper version of Snow White. We don't see it. All we see is Perry all dolled up...like a 1920's flapper who looks like...a 1920's flapper. Are we missing something? Is there a dwarf somewhere in the ad we can't see?
Oh wait. We get it. We see the birds and the apple. Oh and the looking glass. Oh well. It's still a bit of a stretch for us. After all, would Snow White ever be caught dead revealing this much skin? Oh and nice touch highlighting the "Hot" in "Hotel."
Here's an interesting twist on the whole objectification thing. As we all know, women are continuously objectified as sex objects in advertising and in general culture. hey, old habits die hard but some progress is being made.
While this commercial doesn't exactly fall into the Verizon Dumb Dad category, it does unabashedly position men as playthings, accessories if you will, for women. All to sell a tie to a man. Or, well, a woman buying a tie for a man...or, well, her plaything.
Brilliant, actually.
And honestly, does any man really care that he's being objectified as long as he's got a hot woman by his side?

Yesterday, Consumerist announced the nominees for its second annual Worst Ad in America Awards. This year, more than 40 ads garnered nods including references to poop and the vagina. The online voting period ends on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 5 p.m. The winners will be announced on Monday, Oct. 17.
Of the awards, Consumerist Editor Meghann Marco said, "For the second year in a row, our readers have spoken and have nominated even more Worst Ads than last year. There are even a few repeat offenders like Progressive Insurance with their "Flo the insurance adjuster" commercials and Dannon Activia with their Jamie Lee Curtis ads. Both were previous Worst Ad nominees." Flo? Flo? Seriously? Voted worst? This is like a USA Today Super Bowl Ad Meter ranking.

Last month, a study conducted by Boston University researchers John Byers and Georgia Zervas and Harvard University researcher Michael Mitzenmacher found that while Groupon and LivingSocial deals can increase the number Yelp reviews, they can also reduce Yelp scores by ten percent. Yelp reviews that mentioned the words "Groupon" or "coupon" lowered star ratings by ten percent. Reviews that mentioned both words showed a 20 percent drop.
The researchers examined 16,692 Groupon offers and 2,609 LivingSocial offers in 20 cities and 56,000 Yelp reviews for 2,332 merchants that ran 2,496 deals.
