Google Scoops Up DoubleClick for $3.1 Billion

google_logo.jpg

And the giant gets even bigger. Google has acquired DoubleClick. With this acquisition, Google obtains something it didn't have before: entry into the world of display advertising, the ad serving that goes along with that and the close relationships Double Click has with advertisers, publishers and agencies. That one phone call ad buy gets ever closer. Along with the deal, Google gets affiliate marketing company Performics, which DoubleClick recently acquired, further boosting Google's own recent launch of a CPA service.

Killer Jeans Take On Killer Situations

Killercar.jpg

Some print campaigns are just so odd they make you stop and look. This Killer Jeans effort is one such campaign. Touting its Immortal Jeans line, we've got a Disney Test Track/crash test dummy-style approach with the required auto babe. We've got the hipster base jumper and we've got a mine sweeper crew. Get it? Dangerous situations? Killer Jeans? Good. We didn't want to have to spell it out for you.

Bates Enterprise Mumbai created the campaign.

Lawn Tractor Becomes Pinball Game

winn_back_cub_cadet.jpg

Copywriter: "I got it! Cub Cadet helps you win back your weekend. We can make it into a retro pinball game." Art Director: "Cool. We can have all the tractors be like pinballs so we can illustrate how tight the tractors can turn!" And that's exactly what Pittsburg agency Blattner Brunner did for Cub Cadet. It's different. We will give them that. See the spot here.

Wait For It. No Really, Wait. Yes. Keep Waiting

wk_burnout.jpg

We clicked. We waited. We clicked. We waited. We saw the guy scream. We clicked. We waited. We saw the tree. We clicked. We waited. We waited. We waited. We...oh just go experience it for yourself. Really. Trust us. You'll love it. Compliments of Weiden + Kennedy for Electronic Arts' Burnout Dominator. Obviously Firefox 2.0 doesn't like this site. Oh wait. It's supposed to do nothing. Right?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Illuminate Brazil, Stage Rescue

ninja_turtles.jpg

Beamvertising is back and bringing the Ninja Turtles to life outside the big screen.

For the Brazilian film Tartarugas Ninja, the beamvertised Turtles enacted a mini-rescue against a building, utilizing its actual dimensions, which made the show that much more realistic. We admit it came as a comfort to us to watch them in live action. We have always wanted them to be real.

Montana Meth Campaign Instills Anger, Despair, Retribution

meth_girl_hospital.jpg

Watching these new Montana Meth spots makes one want to grab a gun, hunt down a drug dealer, stick the barrel of the gun in his mouth and blow his fucking head off. Yes, these new Venables Bell & Partners-created spots are powerful. Very powerful. Shot in single continuous takes and directed by the brilliant Darren Aronofsky, the four spots explore the effect of Meth not just on the individual but also on that individual's friends and family. A girlfriend gets sold for drug money. A mother gets hit by her drug-addled son while he steals her money. An overdosed girl gets dumped at the hospital by her "friends." A husband and wife lock their out-of-control son out of their home. Powerful stuff, indeed.

MSVU Says 'Don't Come Here,' Students Respond in Droves

msvu_goodthing.JPG

Putting that reverse psychology argument to rest, Mt. St. Vincent University contends it worked for them -- and they have data to prove it.

Alongside Extreme Group MSVU launched Good Thing, a campaign that courts savvy new students by telling them not to attend the university because it would ruin their small class sizes and good vibe. Shirts were printed with "Seriously. Don't come here. We've got a good thing going."

Featured at Empire Theatres, a popular hangout, and online, early creative consists of sharp graphic design (1, 2, 3) then, later, more casual animation (4, 5, 6) instead of ho-hum study-on-the-lawn photos. Nice work.

Apparently future co-eds thought so too. Applications leaped 7.8 percent and visits to the site saw an 18.5 percent jump compared to the same time in 2005. Who'd have guessed disinterest -- even feigned disinterest -- is magnetic?

Penthouse Plays Pussycat Games with My Pleasure Pet

penthouse_pleasure_pet.JPG

With the help of Sugartown Creative, Penthouse Magazine releases My Pleasure Pet, an online gaming experience that brings Subservient Chicken back to its pulpy webcam roots. Sugartown co-president and creative director Fritz Westenberger also makes his directorial debut shooting the game's footage of Heather Vandeven, the Penthouse Pet of the Year.

Unfortunately there are no widgets for this one, although we thought that would be the next natural step. The object of the game is to keep the luscious Heather appeased by asking her to perform certain tasks; her unhappiness could create undesirable consequences (like her complete disinterest in your existence).

You know what would be awesome? A subservient creative department douchebag.

Axe Gives Sex Tips in Campy Swami Garb

axe_esp.JPG

If you worry that Axe's Boost Shower Gel isn't sufficient enough aid to help you hook up, Axe's Boost Your ESP (Extra Sexual Perception) provides an opportunity to order campy-ass love guru Swami Mack's ESP book. Act now while supplies last.

Once upon a time Axe was fairly witty. With Boost Your ESP they've trespassed into Bruce Campbell territory, and nobody is allowed to do that. Walking the line of camp and sex is delicate work, like knitting lattices.
