Mazda Still Makes Cars? Well, It Sure as Hell Can't Make Ads

mazda_fit.png

Imagine the music you'd hear at a gay strip club. Is your pelvis gyrating yet? Good. Add graphics from Japanese ninja porn. Toss in a green car for good measure.

You know what you get?

This ad for Mazda - which, to be frank, has given us (arguably) worse ads in the past. We can't think of a slogan that beats "Fitness comes as standard," though. If you can, congratulations.

JWT Dusseldorf, why have you forsaken us?

THIS is not music you would hear at a Gay Strip Club... it's crap. The ad would be served much better if they would find something along the lines of Dirty Vegas or the others that Scion likes to use. Mazda signed a music deal with a rock act out of Canada that would have worked better for this ad.

You sure love to insult people and cultures that have done nothing to hurt you, however. I totally disrespect you for that writing style.

The Infadels are an up-and-coming UK electronica act. And as this advert is intended to reach a younger, Pan-European audience, it seemed only natural to choose a band and music style that appeals to them.
On another note, in this business aggressive writing styles are a way of life. And all publicity is good publicity.

This ad seems so sad and desperate. Like "please buy me", "I really am cool!" "I promise"

Kelly. Chill. Nobody's hating on somebody else's culture or people. It's all about the ad, man.

That's a Mazda 2 (or whatever they call it elsewhere), it's not for sale in the US market - a subcompact sporty car that gets awesome MPG, why would Americans want that? - so that commercial isn't made for us. From my brief stints in Europe, that spot might actually do well over there. It certainly falls in line with other European car ads I've seen.

I agree with Kelly. Angela, you've brought a bitchy negativity to this blog that is completely unnecessary. Yes, this is Adrants, but Steve always managed to qualify his opinions with a sort of "this is just my opinion" disclaimer, and he just isn't as mean as you. It makes you seem like a cunty high-schooler who thinks the whole world is lame. For the most part, no one cares what you think. Just report whatever stories come across your desk.

Angela...
You are dead right... I don't give a fuck if it's gay, lesbian, bi or necrophilia... The ad sucks. Tell all those wankers to stop being so precious. It's an ad... and it SUCKS... And Paul's brief stints in Europe must have been for ten minutes if he thinks this is how they advertise cars there. I still love ya baby.
Cheers/George

George, is it not a European car ad? I guess even though that commercial was made for, and is being shown in, Europe:

Use: 2007 Pan-European
Agency: JWT-Düsseldorf
Client: Mazda Motor Europe

It's still apparently not "how they advertise cars there".
