Oxfam Game Calls Attention to Global Poverty
Random Culture points to a site called bit unfair, a gameshow-style site created for Oxfam to call attention to the unfair treatment of the poor in the world. In the game, if you label yourself rich, you always win. If you label yourself poor, you always lose. At the end of the game, you are told, "if you give a damn, give us your name." The site's not asking for money but simply trying to gather a collective voice they can take to the world's governments asking them to "change their policies towards people in extreme poverty." Draft London did the work.

This is another smart viral site from Oxfam - I had the chance to work with them on promoting their online Hunger Banquet effort, another site designed to share the experience of what poverty is really like by putting users into a choose your own adventure style story where they are faced with the same choices people in poverty must make every day. Regardless of audience, it's these types of campaigns that make serious social campaigns engaging (rather than boring) and do far more to build support and awareness for nonprofits and their issues than incessant direct mail pieces and the occasional telemarketing fundraiser.
A great idea, appallingly executed.
It just seems so cumbersome, complicated and slow.
