Rolling Stones Half Time Show Kinda, Sorta OK
Perhaps making the most insightful comment about their appearance during the Half Time show, Mick Jagger said, "We could have done Super Bowl One but everything comes to he who waits." They might be old but they are good. And for all you youngsters out there who might think Mick could have sounded better, that's what actual, non-lip synched stadium singing sounded like back in the day. That said, it was not the most stellar of Half Time shows. Maybe Bob Garfield was on to something after all.

They didn't gell until their last song. Mick sounded pretty decent considering he looks like Imus.
sucked, sucked, and more sucked. sounded awful, sounded rushed, sounded as if the abc production team is a little too comfortable running the 'are you ready for some football' music than producing a big time show.
the editing out of the bad words (they said they didn't edit 'satisfaction', but the second line was changed--no more 'girly action'). puh-leeze.
in all honesty, the rest of the nfl's promos and abc's promos were better than nearly every single spot shown.
I thought it was a sad display for a legend of a band. I wish they would go away so we could remember them for what they used to be, great. Now I only think of them as prunes with legs who can sing. Like the california raisons.
dave, good popint, I think the ABC crew in general dropped the ball all night during the game too. Jiggly camera work. Probaly used the guys leftover from NYPD Blue. Cutting away at odd times as well.
sorry. I must have used ABC's spell check on that last post.
It was a good show. Iv'e never seen them in concert so it was just good for me. At least there was no wardrobe malfunctions. It's about time they got something decent for the show.

The Rolling Stones - halftime performers on Super Bowl XL - "Start Me Up" set-opener - good choice...
But what happened? The final verse of the song is, "You make a grown man cry, you make a dead man [word muted]." Huh? Is that word really that offensive...even in the song's context?
Let's see...the game's MVP said the pass that lead to his touchdown was a "helluva pass." A woman in one commercial said "jackass" as one (male donkey that is) was standing next to her. A large-breasted woman's T-shirt straps started tearing apart...again. A woman in short shorts and a T-shirt got violently clobbered (could that have been abuse?) by a guy after catching a pass. A woman in fishnet stockings and lingerie had a suggestive look and comment.
No censoring on any of those spots or comments. But muting the word "come?" The button-pushing guy didn't mute it in the stadium and it appeared everyone stuck around for the second half.
Who knows...maybe that was a reference to a dead man returning back to life. But who cares? The lyric line has been on radio and TV for 25 years. No censoring over that time.
So it is clear - make sure no one on your airwaves says that "word." It, like Janet Jackson's bre...err pierced body part, might get you fined!
I thought the Stones were, well...the Stones. They did what they do best - crank up the hits and deliver the goods. I also have to give them credit for appearing with none of their usual army of background singers or the full horn section. You wanted The Rolling Stones? Well, that's what you got.
What let them down was a terrible sound mix (you couldn't hear Charlie's drums or Ronnie's guitar) and poor direction. Imagine, ABC can mic Jerome Bettis in his helmet but you can't hear a full band! Still, the Stones had charisma to spare - and were able to be thrilling without the tacky production numbers of years past.
I bet someone from the NFL production team is on the phone with Bruce Springsteen this morning about NEXT year's Super Bowl.

Where where you guys? Were you in a bar with all the women going crazy and everybody singing along and waving their hands in the air? I was, and the predominant question was...what do chicks see in these guys? Our bar party loved it. Maybe it had to do with the consumption of alcohol. Any 68 year old who can show me a taught tummy and move his hips like Mick deserves some credit. It doesn't matter what you look like guys..just be amazing.
it sucked
The only thing I muted was 'Satisfaction'- it's now a 65 year old joke.
Re: Mick "but (he)I TWHY(ed), yeah I TWHY..."
I thought it was the best halftime show I'd seen, but that is not really saying much. I liked the fact that they didn't have ten different artists on stage, and didn't do a crappy medley - like other musicians have done. Not a whole lot of pointless flash, probably less than the Stones are used to. They went through three songs without rushing, they all looked good (as good as they ever do), and I loved the stage. And, as has been pointed out, no lip sync. Ultimately, it's a Super Bowl half-time show, not a Stones concert, and I thought it was more fun than Janet's boobie.
