Abstinence Billboard Says 'Wait for the Bling'
Apparently, Iowa has the same underage pregnancy problem that Virginia does and, like Virginia, has launched a billboard campaign to raise awareness of the issue. While Virginia's effort spoke to guys asking, on its billboard, "Isn't she a little young?", Iowa's effort speaks to girls telling them to "Wait for the Bling." Yes, you read that right. Iowa, land of the potato corn, is speaking street. The Iowa billboard popped up a month or so ago and looks much like any billboard you'd see if you ventured 100 miles outside a major city. There's a certain cultural cuteness to these boards as they try to latch onto what they perceive to be big city speak while, at the same time, callling attention to a burning local issue.

Idaho is the land of the potato. Iowa is all about corn. :-)
Well I guess it's easier to be a golddigger than a teenage mom.
There's a certain cultural cuteness to folks referring to Iowa as "the land of the potato" ... ha! Everyone knows that's spelled "p-o-t-a-t-o-e" - or, at least, that's how they spell it in Indiana.
Thanks for the laugh.

Now that we know it's corn and not potatoes, Mike, you might want to check Dictionary.com to realize that the potato is, in fact, spelled potato.
Notice that 'bling' is in quotes. That way the sponsor can maintain some distance from the slang word!
I'm not sure Steve...looks like some Photoshop work to me.
The turkey shots are for REAL!
Even if they wait for the bling, it doesn't mean the guy will stick around to take care of the baby once it arrives. And a cheap diamond ring will support her and her baby for only so long...
People, don't you remember they had a Miss Ebonics
beauty pageant some years back?
The winner was crowned Mrs. Ida Ho.
Steve,
I believe Mike was just referring to an instance when Dan Quayle tried to correct a second grade spelling bee contestent by stating that potato was actually spelled "potatoe". That's why he threw in the Indiana part.
