Elisha Cuthbert 'Captivity' Billboard Campaign Yanked

captivity-cu.jpg

Even though Elisha Cuthbert's movie career is tubing, her most recent movie, Captivity, is getting a bit of extra press because its four billboard campaign depicting Cuthbert in positions of abduction, confinement, torture and death. The movie's studio, After Dark Films, which partnered with Lionsgate on the film, was flooded with calls from local area residents who found the imagery horrific, shocking and inappropriate for placement in public spaces. After Dark exec Courtney Solomon told the LA Times the billboards were a mistake and that it's unclear how they were approved and placed. Lionsgate denies any involvement with the billboard campaign. After Dark, reacting to complaints, has told the outdoor company to take the boards down.

Does anyone have a link to the actual billboard? I'd like to see what all the hoopla is about, or if it's just more overreaction to outside the box ads.

Seriously Steve, get spellcheck or a copywriter. Call me anal, fine, but don't you even care when there are spelling errors in your headlines? It's really not that hard...

I don't think it's that bad. The only problem I have is that it doesn't show off enough of Elisha Cuthbert's body (preferably when she's alive). I liked the ads for Saw 2 that were yanked as well.

I can see how people get worried about this as it's in a public place, but this billboard doesn't cross any lines that some ads for stopping domestic violence haven't crossed. The children they are trying to protect simply see a disturbing image, but don't know what it's for or the cause it represents, so who's to say the movie poster does more damage than the aforementioned nonprofit ad?

Unclear how the campaign was approved! Where do I find clients like this? Please tell me.

I'd like to see it too. What is so bad that they'd pull it?

ThirtyWhat, the billboard image is now in the story. Click it to see it bigger.

Someone on Flickr did capture one of the most disturbing actual images. It can be seen here:

Please let's see some images of anti-violence billboards that are equivalent. I'm curious.

Just a couple immediate ones i remember. I've also seen some around town about "what if your disease was on the outside" that were pretty nasty.

Greg, that was well worth the click.

What's the big deal? When Orson Wells wrote 1984, I think he meant 2007. When is government going to realize it's role is to protect its citizens and not limit our freedom! Can't stand these libs and religious nutcases....
