Turbo Tax Does Tax Rap With Vanilla Ice

taxrap_vanilla_ice.jpg

Sort of along the lines of logic (or complete and purposeful lack there of) that resulted in Robert Goulet appearing in an Emerald Nuts Super Bowl commercial, Intuit has tapped Vanilla Ice (where the hell has he been all these years?) to front a Tax Wrap promotion for Turbo Tax. The promotion offers $25,000 to the person who makes the best homemade rap demo about taxes. So far, there aren't too many submissions and they are all embarrassingly horrible. We really don't know what to do with this one. Trash it for its use of a has-been to get all jiggy with one of the most financially serious periods in a person's life or praise it for its brilliant quirkiness and kitschy badness.

25k is a pretty excellent contest prize but it helps to have subject matter that people are passionate about. taxes? i suppose people are passionate about hating taxes.

And what the hell is up with having to have people rap for it? Lord have mercy. Without even visiting the site i'm willing to bet the company threw up a little 'rapping granny' seeder video.

where the hell has he been all these years?

He's been a busy man, appearing on Celebrity Boxing and various reality shows, beng a "celebrity" guest on quiz shows, recording an album with Insane Clown Posse, being arrested for assaulting his wife, and (I believe) owning a bicycle shop somewhere in south Florida.

(Don't ask how or why I know this -- the shame is too much to bear.)

The idea for the tax rap was actually stolen from an employee of Intuit. The only reason Vanilla Ice has that job is because the original video had his background music.

The ones that came in nearer to the deadline are a lot better than the early entries. For what it's worth, here's mine:
