Non-Advertising Types Staff New Ad Agency

Fifteen year agency vet John Palumbo is approaching the creation of his new ad agency, BigHeads, very differently than most. Rather than staffing the agency with jaded agency types, many of whom can't get out of their own way, Palumbo, he firmly believes there are no longer any rules governing advertising, has hired a cadre of "big heads" including a New York City bike messenger, a reality TV producer, the date doctor the movie Hitch was based on and twin dancers from Crazy Horse in Las Vegas. If some new ideas can't come out of that mash up of personality types, the whol business might as well roll up its ego-infested carpet and give up. He's doing something right because Braun, Ramada Worldwide and Remy USA have slipped some business his way.

I searched google and Y! for Big Heads and John Palumbo and after fifteen minutes-I give up other than yahoo and google ads for ebay offerring the opportunity to buy JP at a great price and a few wrong JP's...I was hoping to reach JP to discuss a bushel of insiders that just might enjoy his mad genius. WOW - a move that is as awesome as it is brave!

That said, as previously geeky new techniques such as blogs, wikis, flickr and youtube etc. become more mainstream methods of going to market, the main problem is how to fill these media with interesting and attractive content.

The best way to do this is to get the typical users of this type of media to make the content.

For not only will they know the medium better than anyone else, but they will carry none of the historical scars of previous campaigns or try to work within the boundaries of design or marketing rules they have been taught.

Sounds like a winner to me. Just think he's not going to re-circulate a few of the same old problems that swim around the business landing at a new desk now and then. Then again some of the motor head ideas I hear around race tracks scare me.
