Nude French Magazine Cover Catches Eye of Visiting New Yorker

Bucky Turco tells us New Yorker Heron Preston Johnson, attending Parsons School of Design in Paris is suffering from culture shock. Coming from America where all our thoughts of nudity and sex are bottled up, capped and stored on a shelf, Johnson was a bit overwhelmed by the openess the French and many other European nations have about sex and sexual imagery. Apparently, while walking down the street, he was a bit shocked by this ad poster for a French fashion magazine. Se the full image here.

She must be a success story -- all of the subheads on the cover are about dieting.

How long before some fine upstanding moralist gives this girl a coverup? Frankly, if I looked that good I wouldn't mind being plastered on the side of a bus stop.

Seems Americans are a bit up-tight when it comes to sexuality. Many US visitors in Tornino (Turin) for the games were shocked at what lurked around every corner...

what is the point of this posting? who in this day and age would be shocked by european openness to the human form in all its glory? i would hope not the ad world sophisticates who read adrant. if you want to post a shot of a hot chick, well then just post it. but don't hide behind some silly story about a student being "shocked". what's next? a wieden intern on loan to the amsterdam office is dumbfounded to learn that smoking hash and sleeping with prostitutes is legal there?

You need to get a dose of middle America my friend. Contrary to the wishes of right coaster and left coasters, it is the conservative middle-American that guides the mores of this country.

Steve,
we are all well aware of the middle america aesthethic, which for some reason holds fox television programming in high regard.
but that is not the point of my posting. my point is that a New Yorker, attending Parsons School of Design in Paris(!), is somehow shocked by what he saw on the streets there. I for one am not buying it. i think the whole point was just to post the picture. capiche?

Well -- mo nekkid does not mean mo better -- maybe those so quick and willing to bare it all have nothing else to offer?

Newsflash! American shocked by European sexuality!
Duh. That's about as interesting as:
Newsflash! European dumbfounded by American morality!
Been there, heard that.

Bare breasts on the cover of major magazines in Europe have been common for many, many decades. American design schools need a class on design abroad. It would make us better designers here in the States.
