Sun Server Poses As Playboy Centerfold

sun1.jpg

Sanj send us pictures of a unique for Sun Computer which places its computer server on a velvet couch in front of a roaring fire reminiscent of your typical Playboy centerfold spread. The ad even includes the Playboy like interview with statements such as, "I Love - naughty ROI talk, multiple platforms, dimly lit data centers." We like it. After all, how excited can you get about a server?

Thats funny, but SUN needs to focus on selling computers from their website, not ads.

When you take over as president of Sun, you can direct their advertising dollars however you wish.

A server? Come on. An IPod, yes. A server, no.

"Unique" ad? Maybe if it hadn't been already done for MINI when they actually ran a centerfold spread IN Playboy...maybe then 'unique' might be the proper word to describe this ad. But if you want to just toss a word like unique around whenever you want, that's cool.

Actually, Joe, it wasn't "unique" when MINI did it either: The product as centerfield had already been done several times before. Even a hack agency like the late, unlamented HDC did it for Sea-Doo. And didn't Absolut Vodka do one way back in the day?

I meant "product as centerfold." Damn you, World Series!

Hell, I did it too. 8 years ago for Hickory Specialties, a company that manufactures liquid smoke, which is a food additive. All you faithful readers of "Food Product Design" magazine may remember seeing it.
