Art Director's Club Intros...Wait For It...The Black Cube
The Art director's Club will announce the winners of its annual awards show one month in advance of the show which will be held May 19 at the SVA Arts Center in New York. The organization promises a faster program and presentation format because, well, as we all know, all we care about in this business is free food and drinks and people onstage accepting awards seriously interferes with that endeavor. Just ask Kathy Keily of Boston's The Ad Club.
The ADC has added a new Best in Show award this year, the ADC Black Cube. Sort of like the credit card companies running out of words (platinum, titanium, etc.) for their "exclusive" offerings, the ADC had to get inventive. Well, actually, it's not inventive at all. Someone at the ADC probobly just looked around at a recent event and noted, "Woe. Everyone in advertising loves to wear black so why don't we just make our award black?" And there you have it. The birth of the ADC Black Cube.
Presenters will include ADC past presidents Bob Greenberg, chairman, CEO, global CCO at R/GA, Paul Lavoie, chairman, TAXI and Bill Oberlander, EVP, CCO-New York, Cossette Communications, as well as past presidents/ADC Hall of Fame laureates George Lois and Richard Wilde, chair, BFA Advertising and Graphic Design Department, School of Visual Arts and founding partner, Wilde Design.
