Tappening Tries Hitching Ride on the Goodship Obama

obama-tappening.jpg

Maybe because using plastic bottles to promote tap water ain't workin' all that great, Tappening decided to accomplish what many have before it: self-promotion by way of Obama. Check out the triage of ads it produced to "congratulate" Obama on his "decision" to stop drinking bottled water.

Hoping to seem witty, the Tappening also attributed Obama's success in winning Democrats' favor to his anti-bottled-water stance.

That's the first I've heard of it. If Obama actually did declare war against bottled water, it hasn't stopped him from offering some to his fainting fans (scroll to 1:56).

They are nothing more then a PR firm trying to get publicity.. Everyone needs to know that the guys who own this are a large PR firm in NY I think and they are doing this to keep their names in the news..Its sad really..IMHO

Johnson-

You big dufus. The PR guy is all over the news for 20 some odd years. The ad guy is too. I doubt those guys give two cents about "being in the news". I've watched the PR guy on hours of television in the past week (not even mentioning Tappening). Just saw him with Geraldo today. And yesterday on CNN. That dude isn't worrying about getting press. He seems to be a regular on any station I watch.

What no one is saying in our shallow, lets take a potshot industry is (OK-I'm about to take a potshot), those guys are getting rich. My guess is being rich beats being on TV any day of the week? Why is no one pointing that out. Other than that, the marketing is brilliant. I'm so, so , so sick of hearing about them in client meetings.

Brilliant as usual by that group. Love their stuff. Talk about guts. This one goes down in history as either a gutsy iconic one for the history books or a dumb call. Either way, wonder how much attention they get for this one?

And as much as I fear what I will hear for the tenth time in a client meeting myself, you have to hand it to them. I want to be like they are. Never knew who their client was, but it's a good one. A client who lets their agency do what their agency suggests. That's new. Huh?

If you drink tap water to reduce plastic bottles, you can increase your green-ness quotient by unbottle-ing your iced tea too.... http://5691gerg.com/?p=140
