It is not getting worse. I live in a college town and I see loads of girls at the pool. Yes, some are size 4 and 6, but they have actual meat and substance to their bodies. I am amazed because I think my bones skeleton alone without meat wouldn't fit in a size 4. I also see lots of high school kids at sports camps here and most of them look fine. I wouldn't worry so much about your daughter. Just send her out to play, you too, and the world you see is different.

I'm going to qualify my last comment with a personal experience. At one time while sitting in a hospital waiting area, a young girl who looked like the girl pictured here, a extreme anorexic body, came up to me and sat on my lap and wanted to be held. It was just about moved to tears and asked the nurse if I could help her. The nurse said she has to help herself.
I don't think she was influenced much by ads. Some are, but then again there are some children that read Sidhartha and decide on a asceticism so do I blame the author or the literature department?
