Terrible Dairy Queen Commercial Is Really Good
Make the Logo Bigger doesn't like this goofy new Dairy Queen spot in which three people enjoy the chain's Flamethrower sandwich countering all the YouTube LMAO/LOL love it's getting by wondering if there's an acronym for "annoying out loud." Oh wait, there is. It's AOL but that's an entirely different story altogether. Anyway, we love Bill from Make the Logo Bigger but we have to disagree with him on this one. Sure, the spot is horribly over the top but it's also absolutely fuckin' hilarious! And, it's so unlike everything else out there, it jumps right off the screen and screams, "Notice Me! I'm A Commercial!" We noticed. We like.

Ha, I like flames, just hate that annoying breathing-in thing.
The flame payoff was WELL worth the breathing-in thing.
But, with the exception of the "breathing in" thing, isn't this a copy, albeit a BETTER copy of the Burger King or Wendy's or somebody's spot of a year or so ago where the guy was eating lunch at his desk and set his papers on fire and finally caused the sprinkler system to go off?
Am I the only one who remembers that?
I am just waiting for a viewer to try this, and choke.

tim, you're right there another version of this spot a few years back. and it was actually done for dq as well, which makes this spot even more lame. i personally found the original much funnier than this one because it was not so telegraphed ("if you exhale flames will come out of your mouth", hmm i wonder where this is going...) but i don't exactly see either one as breakthrough work.
The guy who explains the flames was the star of the first spot. He sets his office on fire breathing DQ flames.
I think this is good, but wonder why it took so long to do a 2nd spot. If they'd done these together and ran these 50/50 we could have called it a campaign.
Well, of course, the truly sad thing is that I remembered the spot concept, but attributed it in my mind to a different advertiser. Think I am the only one????
This often happens. I understand a huge proportion of Americans think it's the "Duracell 'Bunny.'"
And, I have a client who has several times referred to the "Visa 'Priceless'" campaign.
I would totally suckle a Dairy Queen hamburgesa.
