MySpace Continues Commercialization With 'Seventeen'
Does any right minded person actually think MySpace will continue to grow once it's littered with advertising, sponsorships and corporate pages born out of partnerships such as the recent deal between Seventeen and MySpace? Wasn't the genisis and the success of MySpace based on its homegrown qualities? Perhaps the guys don't mind the giant boobs on all those True models and maybe the girls will want to wallow in the importance of Seventeen's crucial editorial issues. Perhaps MySpace users will become immune to these new ad tactics like they've become immune to most other online marketing tactics and MySpace will continue to grow in size despite its commercialization. Perhaps it's all irrelevant. After all, AOL used to be where the cool kids hung out and that monstrosity is still around.

Soon I'll have more corporate advertiser friends than real ones on the site. Corporations love me. Tonight, we're going to the movies.

very good!
I actually think that these myspace profiles that are popping up help the brands. It creates a touch point for people who are passionate about a brand (think X-men and Superman) to further interact not just with a brand, but with other people who are passionate about them. Communities get created around these myspace profiles. If that doesn't promote brand evangelism, I don't know what does. X-Men doesn't have 2.9 Million friends because people are ignoring it.
As far as making myspace uncool with clutter, it's pretty easy to ignore these brand profiles. You basically see them only if you choose to.
As I've written about on AdScam umpteen times, anything the "Wizened of Oz" (Murdoch) touches turns to shit. Yeah... He's a smart old fucker but his taste is up his arse, and if for nothing else, as the owner of the BBC... That's Fox News... "The Bush Broadasting Corporation." He should be shipped back to Australia on a convict ship. His teenage wife is "tasty" though!
