Tyson Celebrates Cannibalism On Packaging
One really has to wonder what goes through the mind of a designer sometimes as indicated by some recent Tyson packaging. Brenner Thomas points out this bit of odd packaging from the food giant for its Sunset Strips chicken strips on which an image of a chicken appears to be eating itself...well...a chicken strip, that is. One might argue it looks like a french fry but we doubt it. Apparently, cannabalism is alive and well in the chicken business.

Years ago, when I worked on Tyson at Saatchi, we learned that the chickens' diet was comprised largely of ground-up beaks, feet and other unusable parts. At the time, the tagline was "Feeding you like family," which we all found pretty amusing.
This is what comes before the inevitable Mike Tyson endorsement.
"Oddly, this is retired graphics, more than 10 years old.
I guess some rant f--ker might consider it recent."
Oddly, we don't give a shit if it's over ten years old. We still think it's funny.
Similarly, advertisers often use cute representations of animals to sell that animal's dead flesh... hmm hmm... like the A&W "chubby chicken". "C'mon, kids, aren't I cute? Don't you want to kill me and eat my flesh? Or perhaps just pretend that meat doesn't come from dead animals at all!"
This reminds me of seeing the construction of a new Tony Romas BBQ restaurant, and the builders would erect wooden fencing with illustrations of pigs in construction gear going about their business with hammers and saws...blissfully building the restaurant of their own destruction.
