Starbucks Does Coffee On the Roof Thing
Milking, but brilliantly maximizing the "Hey dude, you left your coffee on the roof of your car" scenario, Starbucks has done just that - left its coffee on the roofs of cars in San Francisco so people will go nuts trying to tell the driver - a paid Starbucks stunt marketer - he's, yes, left his coffee on the roof of his car. Flickr member Thomas Hawk snapped a shot of one of the vehicles and recounts his being had by the stunt.

I saw this in San Francisco this week. I saw a guy making a fuss to the car next to him then the "stunt marketer" drove off and I watched the car go all the way down the street waiting for the coffee cup to fall off. I guess you could say they got me too!
Who did this? Very clever!
They were doing it in the Chelsea section in New York City as well. We all cursed the driver and said how we hated Starbucks...how it was ruining the neighborhoods of the city ! They should have stuck with the Upper East Side area where those assholes don't care how corporations are destroying our individuality!
Didn't they do this last year?
I seem to remember being directed to this site:

Yeah, they did this on taxis in Boston last year. Cool idea.
I seem to remember Johnny Knoxville doing something like this on an episode of Jack-Ass— He used a baby seat and doll instead. Talking about getting reactions!
I saw this today in lower Manhattan... Right on the corner of Duane and Lafayette
Saw it yesterday in San Francisco near Market stree. People were pointing and a bus driving damn near caused a pile up when he opened up his main door to scream at the driver of the starbucks car
David Letterman did this stunt using a bag of groceries, oh, what was it now... ten years ago? It's still cool though. As far as being effective? I guess it puts Starbucks on people's minds.
This is my first post by the way -- thought I've been an on-looker long enough. I wonder if they'll like me here. I wonder if this will get posted in the first place...
I've done this with empty styrofoam coffee cups by dropping a strong magnet in them and driving around town. I have to admit -- it is hilarious to toy with. Entire groups of people stop to watch, waiting for the spill. Yet no turn, pothole, or speedbump will shake it. Most people show dissapointment at lack of an entertaining spill, while others go insane trying to notify you of the misplaced coffee. The confusion it causes it always amusing.
Seeing how many people stopped and took time out of their day to tell me about the cup, though, helped restore my faith in humanity. ...kind of.
