Saturn Gives SoHo a Visit With Image Projections
Adrants reader tlubin writes, "A buddy of mine saw some guerrilla marketing for Saturn down in SoHo the other night...basically just a guy sitting in a truck with a nice projector on top, projecting crystal-clear ads onto buildings nearby. Would be cool if someone could investigate/get a snapshot of this if it's still going on. Indeed. If any readers saw that an caught it on disk, please send.

I bet it was Neverstop. They have a fleet of stealth vans that have a telescoping projector that comes out of the roof of the vans. check web site.
Nope it was Massivemedia... They have also been doing alot of work in NYC for the "Bodies Exhibit" and "King Kong". They have a bunch of videos on their site under "Services-->Street Theater" http://www.massivemediainc.com

Saturn seems to be in severe denial of its true audience. Soho? Building projections? These tactics seem so wrong for the brand.
Doesn't this sort of stuff need permissions from local authorities and property owners?
No permissions. We need more people ready to say why can't we and less ready to assume we shouldn't be able to. Why should we need "permission" to do things that hurt nobody?
A property owner shouldn't be able to control what sort of light shines on his property, unless it interferes with the quiet enjoyment of tenants (blaring light in the living room).

In the interests of full disclosure - I work at Cunning, we created one of the best-known projection stunts where we beamed a baked lady onto the Houses of Parliament for FHM magazine back in 1999. It created 40 million impacts and news everywhere....
Projections these days have to work a hell of a lot harder than just beaming a picture of a car on a wall. Much, much harder!

i was in soho this summer and personally viewed a campaign by Virigin Records' band Gorillaz. (I am a huge fan of the band) after weeks of searching blogs and various sites i figured out who performed it; Wave Outdoor. they showcase the project on their site as performed in NYC Union Square, L.A., and Austin, TX. Our company requested a packet of info on the project b/c we have some start-up bands who like to perform guerilla marketing as well. They may do a lot of stuff in soho and NYC, hope that helps.
No photos, but Bodog (the poker site) had set up a semi-permenant projector on the south side of Houston near Mercer (across the road from the Angelique Film Center) last week that was projecting onto a NYU wall.
I'm currently working on a project where we plan on
soft launching a fashion brand in Australia. Projecting already existing images onto buildings is
an option we are considering, could anyone tell me how much this costs?
