Industry Geared Up For Cannes

cannes_mainheader460.jpg

The annual advertising love fest, Cannnes, kicks off on France today and we won't be there. That's why we'll just point you to Ad Age, with its legions of reporters and hefty T & E budget, for continual coverage. On Ad Age's Cannes 2005 page, you'll find Bob Garfield's pick for Grand Prix winner, Scott Donaton's take on some of the show's changes that won't change anything, Leo Burnett's Cannes Reel and audio reports.

Great. Just what this industry needs: another exercise in self congratulation.

Am I the only one who is fed up with the overweening obsession with award shows in this business? It's gone from mildly annoying to downright obnoxious, due in no small part to the rabid coverage by Ad Age, Adweek, Creativity, et al.

boyo, you'd have to count AdRants in your "rabid coverage" list, too. Even your own comment only fans the flames of coverage. If you're fed up, you're going against your opinion by perpetuating the conversation.

You kidding? I'd love to go to Cannes if someone would just pay:-) Then I could bash the event first hand!
