Applebee's Says 'Go Dunk Yourself'
Random Culture points to this Applebee's DunkTank online game in which you upload a picture of yourself, crop your face, dress yourself in a choice of clothing and dunk yourself like one of those carnival games. Random Culture says it's pretty funny. We'll take his word for it. When we realized we had to upload a picture of ourself, we decided it was too much work so we'll just show you Random Culture's pic instead.

It's a fun little game, but has nothing whatsoever to do with the Applebee's brand experience. Maybe if you could dunk other restaurant's mascots, like Ronald McDonald, that would help.
I have to totally disagree. Applebee's is all about fun and family. That's their brand. Knocking their competition is probably not suited to that.
Dunking your friends or pics of favorite celebs/politicians is good clean fun. A solid brand message.
I for one enjoyed dunking my Mother in law and sent it on to my family.
I agree with David (as I just posted in in our blog). The game is definitely fun and keeps the entire experience very light-hearted, however I don't think it brings it back to the brand.
I'm completely in favor of giving people a positive experience associated with your brand, but in order to be successful I believe the experience itself needs to tie back in to your overall brand positioning, and I don't feel that this piece does that. It's definitely fun, but when I'm done playing I don't think of it as an Applebee's experience at all.
How valuable would it be for several blogs to mention applebees?
I imagine they would pay quite a sum to have their brand mentioned in such a favorable light.
To me applebees brand is good food in a fun and friendly atmosphere.... neighborhood atmosphere...you know the kind with fairs and dunk tanks.
Just talking about it is making me hungry. :)
Anyway, I played the game and had fun dunking my favorite (or least favorite) politician...good clean fun!
