Unfortunate timing
Burger King has had so much fortune with its various daring commercials and viral efforts over the past couple years, but its luck ran out when Crispin Porter & Bogusky's newest effort (via Adland) happened to involve a severed hand. Severed hand, you ask? What could possibly go awry with a campaign for a big fast food burger that involved a severed hand? Yeah, now you see it. Wendy's recent fracas involving a chili-dipped severed finger of unknown provenance is currently slamming its marketshare nationwide, and especially on the West Coast, where that's actually considered grody.

Sheesh. Dudes, Dudes, Dudes... This commercial, and another one airing like it (involving a mouth needing widening to handle the big ol' BK sammich) is done Plastic Surgeon consultation-style - it references elective surgeries like breast augmentation and facelifts, not grevious injuries or cooked digits.
It's not CP+B's best work, but it's still leaps and bounds above the current Micky D's and Wendy's tripe.
What is this, a dude ranch? I think we all get the joke, Ghost of Dave Thomas. It's just weak. Whether it's better than what McDonald's or Wendy's is airing is beside the point.
