Dear Advertising Community,
Hello?? Is anyone out there?? It’s January 20 and the Super Bowl is less than two weeks away and all we have in terms of advertising buzz leading up to the game is…crickets. Aren’t we all supposed to be drooling over what we’ll see that day in terms of commercials? Aren’t brands supposed to be fanatically seeding their commercial in advance of the game? Isn’t Bob Garfield supposed to be doing some sort of pre-game bloviation?
OK, so it’s Inauguration day so maybe we’re all thinking about something other than the Super Bowl but still. Come on people! This is supposed to be the biggest advertising event of the season. We should be anticipating the Clydesdales. Wondering if a beer babe will make an appearance. Hoping for another shocker like last year’s Snickers ad.
Oh wait. We get it. The economy sucks. $3 million is way to much to pay for any type of commercial and television itself? It’s been fragmented to death like a grocery item line extension.
On the upside, we may, for the first time, enjoy a Super Bowl instead of hovering over the keyboard “live blogging” the commercials while the rest of you are getting drunk and eating way too much food.
