Weiden + Kennedy Wins Film Grand Prix

Taking home the Film Grand Prix at this year’s Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity is Wieden + Kennedy for Nike Write the Future. The work portrays the dramatic changes the world undergoes as a result of sporting wins and loses and parlays that into Nike place is helping athletes write their own future.

The three minute film directed by Hollywood director and producer Alejandro G. Iarritu (21 Grams, Babel), features Cristiano Ronaldo, Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney, Fabio Cannavaro, Franck Ribery, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott, Patrice Evra, Gerard Pique, Ronaldinho, Landon Donovan, Tim Howard and Thiago Silva as well as cameos by tennis legend Roger Federer, basketball’s Kobe Bryant and Homer Simpson. The work recently won a Black Cube in Advertising at the Art Director’s Club 90th Annual Award Gala.

W+K also won a Gold Lion for Heineken Entrance and Chrysler Born of Fire (which we loved).

Droga5 won a Film Gold Lion for Puma After Hours Athlete. Deutsch won for Volkswagen Force, BBH won for Google Chrome Speed Tests, Johannes Leonardo won for Google Demo Slam: Chubby Bunny, Realtime Karaoke, Extra Spicy, 66 and Rushmore The full list of Film Lions winners is here.

In the category of Titanium and Integrated Lions, Droga5 took home the Integrated Grand Prix as well as a Titanium for its Bing work, Decode Jay-Z with Bing. Rounding out the category were DDB Stockholm which took home a Titanium Lion for Volkswagen’s The Speed Camera Lottery and McCann Erickson Bucharest which took home a Titanium Lion for Kandia Dulce’s American ROM. Yes, Wieden + Kennedy did win a Gold Lion for Old Spice The Man Your Man Could Smell Like, The full list of Titanium and Integrated Lions winners is here.

Droga5 took home the Film Craft Grand Prix and a Gold Lion for its Puma work, After Hours Athlete. Wieden + Kennedy nabbed six Gold Lions in the category for work it did for Chrysler (Born of Fire, three Golds), Nike (Write the Future, two Golds) and Heineken (Entrance, one Gold). Winning the Grand Prix in the new category of Creative Effectiveness was Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO London for Walkers Sandwich, a program which turned the tiny town of Sandwich, Kent into a star-studded spectacle with surprise celebrity appearances. The goal was to increase purchase of Walkers crisps. The campaign achieved 26 percent revenue growth for the brand.

Wieden + Kennedy won a Lion in the category for Old Spice The Man Your Man Could Smell like and BBDO New York won for Snickers You’re Not Yourself When You’re Hungry. The full list of Lion winners is here.
