Volkswagen Debuts Follow Up to ‘The Force’

We think Volkswagen’s follow up to last year’s The Force is OK. It’s certainly not as good. Follow ups rarely are. But we like the direction they took with this follow up which continues the Star Wars theme.

In an extended version of the spot, called The Dog Strikes Back, we see a dog who really, really wants to be able to run after the new VW Beetle but is too fat and too out of shape. So he goes to work training until he’s lean enough for the chase.

The ad then pans out to a Star Wars cantina where Super Bowl watching patrons debate the merits of this year’s dog versus last year’s Little Vadar. One patron who strongly thinks this year’s bog is the better spot gets a little pinch from grown up Vadar who makes an appearance at the very end.

We think the spot will go over well. It’s not as cute and adorable as last years but does a decent job with the theme. And what will next year’s spot be called? Return of the Cats?
