SXSW is Over But the Pictures Live On

cimg2244.jpg

Having returned and recovered from SXSW last week, it’s time to share some pictures from the week. If you have any interest in the festival which focuses on interactive, film and music, you’ve probably already read everything there is out there about the show. And if you’ve missed anything, all one has to do is entered SXSW or SXSW2008 into Google for thousands of results.

We will say one thing about the show though. To marketers and agencies in the interactive space, you need to go to this conference. And you are in the interactive space, aren’t you? It’s unlike any ad conference out there and it covers far more than most other conferences, mostly because it’s not just about advertising. But, that’s a good thing. The show gigs deep into social media, AJAX, rich media, blogging, vlogging, mobile marketing, online privacy issues, the relevance of logos, gaming, and hundreds of other topics. Make plans now to go next year. Seriously.

OK, on to the fluff. We saw Helen Hunt, Moby, Billy Bob Thornton and Mark Cuban to mention a few of the big names that make it to the festival. In addition to the famous, there were the internet famous and then just regular people who are cool, smart and fun to talk to. Check it all out here.

I used to think my boomer parents’ silence meant they didn’t understand me — at 38, I’m starting to think it meant they understood more than I gave them credit for

The cruelest part of being a grandparent isn’t watching your grandchildren grow up — it’s the specific moment when you realize you’ve gone from being the person they run to when they arrive to being the person they’re told to go say hello to before they can leave

I’m 73 and I can still recall every detail of my childhood in the 1950s but I introduced my wife as my daughter at a restaurant last week and the waitress corrected me gently like I was a child and my wife squeezed my hand under the table and I knew we’d entered a new phase where she’s going to spend the rest of our marriage protecting me from my own mind

I’m 65 and I wish someone had told me at 40 that the friendships you don’t invest in during your busy years won’t be there during your quiet ones — because I’ve got time now and nobody to spend it with and the connection between those two things is entirely my fault
