Shut Up & Play Comes Off Crass & Tacky

David&Goliath launched “Shut Up & Play,” an outdoor campaign for the NY-NY Hotel & Casino that revolves around the rowdy, party-hardy ambiance you’ll find within.

Creative below. It reminds me a lot of D&G’s campaign for Rok Vegas, a night club owned by NY-NY.

o “All the fun of New York without the hot garbage smell.”
o Hey look, a dooshy drunken dude.
o “If you decide to get in a fight, please do so in our Irish pub.” I’m rolling my eyes. It’s a little forced.
o “Dear winners: we have gourmet restaurants. Dear losers…”

While the copy plays at clever, I think D&G overlooked something crucial: images of drunk people stumbling around aren’t all that appealing unless you yourself are drunk, or unless they’re of people you know. Otherwise, it all just looks like a sloppy, fug-tacular mess.
