In the realm of contextual fuckery, it’s not always the advertisers that screw up. Sometimes it’s the “legit” content providers themselves.
Case in point: on Monday morning, Culture Grrl woke up to find her copy of The New York Times wrapped in some kind of ad jacket for NBC-TV’s new season.
Heavy on the sponsorship thar, but not heavy enough to ensure stars from NBC’s shows weren’t mistaken for other network staples within the actual newspaper. In a prominent corner section about the Emmys, a shot of Alec Baldwin accepting his award for NBC’s 30 Rock was captioned as an image of Jeremy Piven from HBO’s Entourage.
Le gasp!

Not a significant enough flub for NBC to shake its fist and demand make-goods, but a silly mistake nonetheless.
