Nikon D60 Scores With Adrants

As part of an outreach program where cameras are given to … ahem … those with an audience, Nikon sent Adrants a compact digital D60 SLR to use at the ad:tech conference in San Francisco. Without sounding like some lame PayPerPost post, the camera is really great. It takes some of the best quality images we’ve ever been able to publish here.

Prior to using the D60, the Casio Exilim was our camera of choice. It’s decent, and the fact it slips into a pocket makes it perfect to carry around at a conference or out at night without looking like a full-blown professional photographer. However, it’s amazing how differently people react when you lift up a “real ” camera as opposed to something the size of a credit card. Suddenly you are legit rather than some sleazy dude trying to catch shots of hot women in a nightclub. The D60 gives you cred! People pose! People mug! People think, “Oooo, where will I be published?”

But while Nikon’s D60 SLR probably has more features than anyone other than a professional photographer would ever begin to use, that fact it takes huge, crystal clear, 3872 X 2592 sized 10MP pictures makes images easy to work with when you sit down to edit them. You can crop just the tiniest part of the photo, eliminating all evidence of one’s horrible framing skills, and end up with a still very big, very clear and very publishable image. Check out the photos we took with the D60 at ad:tech here, here and here.

We thank the folks over at MWW Group for coordinating the camera loan with us. To be clear, for you transparency types, no money changed hands. No one asked that anything be written about the experience with the camera. Everything written here is pure opinion.
