I will admit I did not “get” this Mother New York-created Mother’s Day video at first. I figured it was yet another sappy ode to a holiday that demands men to, in one day, must express their appreciation for the mom in their life with trite ditties such as a card or a meal at a restaurant as opposed to the daily verbal appreciation that truly expresses appreciation.
But no. It’s worse. Mom’s a slut. Men are free loading slobs. And the kid has to live through it all. And the song! With lyrics like “You seem to feel love in every possible place. It fills you up but empties out your pride” and “You open more than your heart,” poor mom just can not get her shit together. Except, of course, for being there all the time for her daughter which, I guess is the twisted point this video is trying to make.
Maybe I still don’t get it.
