Moment of Truth’ Hits Moment of Idiotic Ridiculousness

Has anyone watched FOX’s The Moment of Truth? Well, of course you have. You and 20 million others. It’s a good show for sure but is anyone else getting sick of the continued over hype and warnings from host Mark Walberg that, OMFG, some of these truths might be, OMFG, too hard for people to take? WTF? It’s the entire point of the show! To continually hype it as if no one’s smart enough to know exactly what’s going on is degrading to people’s intelligence.

For host Walberg to feign he was against the airing of last night’s so called “the episode we didn’t want you to see” (or some shit) is laughable. For any of the show’s contestants and their couch buddies to be surprised at anything that happens on the show is equally laughable. Everyone goes into this show knowing exactly what’s going to happen. They’d be idiots if they didn’t. Fox isn’t going to hand over hundreds of thousands of dollars and not ask if you’ve slept with a former boyfriend or if you’ve stolen money from work.

And, you’re never going to see perfect people on the show with perfect answers that don’t offend anyone because, well, they’d never get past the initial screening because, oh, they’d suck on the show because, oh, there’d be no drama.

And those ridiculously long, over-staged pauses between answers and the god-like true/false lady? Puleeeeeeeeeeeeeze! Not to mention contestants being coached not to answer questions immediately so as to increase the drama. The drama is so over the top it is gratingly annoying. Then again, that’s what makes it a great show. Simple human fuckery combined with classic game show shenanigans always equals a hit. And that’s what The Moment of Truth has become.

We just can’t wait until we here the $500,000 question…which is sure to be along the lines of “Have you ever murdered anyone?” And, no doubt, we’ll be watching when that happens. Because, dammit, as much as we hate it, we love the show and can’t pry our eyes away from it.

I’m 73 and I realized the reason I watch so much television isn’t because I enjoy it — it’s because the voices fill the silence in a way that doesn’t require me to admit I’ve spent the last four years without a single meaningful conversation with someone who isn’t related to me by blood or marriage

My adult son called last Sunday and talked for forty minutes about his promotion and his new house and his kids and then said “anyway how are you dad” with ninety seconds left in the call — and I said “I’m good” because what else do you say when you realize you’ve become the commercial break in your own child’s life
