Modernista’s Packin’ for Handgun Violence Campaign

Modernista! takes its contrarian methodology to the streets with a gigantor WE SELL GUNS! billboard and interactive campaign for Stop Handgun Violence.

The billboard went live yesterday in Boston, but Modernista! is also planning a guerrilla effort in Denver, where the Democratic and Republican National Conventions will be held. Its purpose is to clue people in to the knowledge that 32 states don’t require background checks or IDs for gun purchases at gun shows. (Which could use a bit more neon treatment. I clicked through a bunch of links and had to learn that from the press release.)

“We wanted to highlight these issues using the same vernacular and art direction that is used at gun shows, and we came up with an over the top satirical billboard that highlights the absurdity of this loophole,” said ECD Gary Koepke.

Well, let’s hope the irony isn’t lost on the same city that thought Mooninites were a bomb threat.
