Miniskirts, Cheeleaders Abound Sunday Night at Affiliate Summit

On Sunday night at Affiliate Summit West in Las Vegas the Palms was where all the party action was. DoublePlay, AdKnowledge, Karaktr and NeverBlue all had parties. As did Copeac, Under the Stars, and Ads4Dough in other locations.

Of all the parties, the NeverBlue/Sin City party with ppc.bz and Nickycakes was the craziest. But if you’re not into the loud, drunken party scene you would have much preferred the Under the Stars party. It was held in the Rio in a meeting room with food, Wii, darts, karaoke and, yes, a bounce house. We ate the pizza and left after a bit to cover all the other parties.

We hear a busload of dancers, hookers, escorts or whatever showed up at the Karaktr party but we weren’t there to witness. We did, however, enjoy the Marilyn Monroe look a like and the Toronto Argonaut cheerleaders.

The DoublePlay party, held at the Hardwood Suite at the Palms, was a well lit affair. Too well lit if you ask us. And last year when LeadFlash had their party there the atmosphere, somehow, was more party like. And people actually shot hoops. Not this year. People just stood around and talked. Or had fun with a light switch.

Copeac had their party at Tryst at the Wynn with an after party at XS. Ads4Dough had their party at The Spearmint Rhino, a strip club. We hear the male/female ration wasn’t all that favorable for a guy.

Psychology says the reason some people become warmer and more approachable after 60 while others become harder isn’t random — it’s that grief either opens people or seals them, and the ones who let loss soften them instead of sharpen them develop a quality that can’t be faked, which is the visible evidence of someone who survived something and chose tenderness over armour

Nobody prepares you for the loneliness of being the last person alive who remembers your mother’s voice, your childhood kitchen, or the sound your father made when he laughed. You become the sole archive of a world that ended, and there’s no one left to verify that any of it happened.

I’m 73 and I recently realized that almost everything I’ve called “my personality” for the last 40 years was actually a collection of survival responses that hardened into habits — the agreeableness, the efficiency, the emotional steadiness — and the question I’m sitting with now is whether there’s someone underneath all that architecture or whether the architecture is all there ever was
