Mark Cuban in the house! Yes, the man, the legend, the dude who said anyone who buys YouTube is a moron was at the Pure Volume Ranch in Austin for Digg’s SXSW Bigg Digg Shindigg. Sadly, as I approached my friend, LA Times Blog Editor Tony Pierce, who was talking to Mark, I neglected to snap a picture. I did, however, manage to snap a picture of a pretty girl getting admired by a couple of guys. (Hey, I need some kind of picture to start this story!) Oh but wait, Tony Pierce did get a picture of the man.

Mark might have been the biggest name at this SXSW Interactive Closing party but this party was all about the internet famous who, after geeking out for four days, just needed to have a beer or two…or three or four. Roaming the floor were iJustine’s Justine Ezarik, Leah Culver (who I wrote about here), Ariel Waldman (who I convinced to blog which helped net her fame so, yea, I’m taking some credit 🙂 ), Mahalo Daily’s Veronica Belmont and former Technorati Chief Technologist Tantek Celik.

Even the heads of Digg, StumbleUpon and Reddit where all there together posing for a group shot.

Also at the party were the crew from Barbarian Group (which hosted a killer party the night before at the Mohawk), including Eva McCloskey, who was kind enough to take me out to dinner before we headed over the the Digg party. Sally Strebel from Best Party Ever was there along with VML’s Tyler Hilker, Lux Alptraum from Boinkolgy and Photrades‘ Andrew Paradies and Krista Neher.

Psychology says people over 60 who still play CDs aren’t resisting technology — they’re protecting a ritual that required intention and commitment and the act of holding an album and choosing it is a ceremony that streaming destroyed by making every song equally weightless and their refusal to let go is a refusal to let music become background noise in a life where too much is already disappearing

I’m 37 and I’ve noticed that whenever there’s a crisis everyone turns to me like I have answers – and the hardest part isn’t solving the problem, it’s that nobody ever asks if I’m okay because they need me to be the steady one and I’ve forgotten how to be anything else

I’m 73 and I keep the television on from six in the morning until I fall asleep — not because I’m watching it, but because the sound of other people talking fills the exact shape of the silence my family left when they stopped needing this house, and some mornings a commercial says “good morning” before anyone real does

Your Boomer mother didn’t stop having dreams when she had you — she just stopped mentioning them because every time she said “I used to want to” someone in the room made it about guilt, and eventually she learned that the safest place to keep an unlived life was inside a sentence that started with “it doesn’t matter anymore”

Introverts who seem quiet in groups but come alive in one-on-one conversations aren’t shy — they process connection through depth rather than breadth, and these 9 traits explain why that changes everything about how they build relationships
