Groupon Trivializes Deforestation With Female Deforestation

groupon_sb_11_elizabeth_hurley.jpg

So here’s the spot Groupon got into the Super Bowl. It features Elizabeth Hurley talking about “one of nature’s most lush ecosystems,” the Brazilian rain forest. But not for long. After what appears to be heartfelt support for the plight of the rain forest, a quick cut takes us to a salon where we heara rip, a woman scream and Hurley dressed in a bathrobe telling us not all deforestation is bad. Ha, ha, fucking ha!

So while hundreds have saved 50 percent on a Brazilian wax at Completely Bare in New York City, the poor rain forest is still being bulldozed. Now if only Groupon gathered together hundreds to get a giant discount on a construction crew to re-plant what has been cut down. That or a fringe mercenary group to bomb the bulldozers before they have a chance to take down the forest.
