The Favorite Website Awards judging is complete. The results for the group’s site of the year award are in and damn if my fellow judges didn’t side with me! I voted for the infectiously engaging HBO Voyeur site but, apparently, more than half of the other judges thought the Goodby Silverstein/North Kindom-created Get the Glass site was better.
While good, Get the Glass just didn’t hold my attention the way Voyeur did. But, and this is important, it took quite a while to get my attention in the first place which may have been one of the reasons it wasn’t picked as a winner. Get the Glass delivers its goods quickly. The HBO Voyeur site is a slow build but once you’re in, you’re hooked and you can’t stop. That’s why I voted for it and, perhaps, why others didn’t.
After selecting HBO Voyeur as the site I thought should win, I wrote, “Hands down, the most compulsively engaging site I have seen in a long, long time. It’s Hitchcockian Rear Window-style storyline take voyeurism to new levels leaving the viewer in a state of utterly helpless, obsessive-compulsive abandon” It really was that engaging for me.
Having judged several creative awards competitions, it’s not always easy to set aside the time needed to truly absorb all the elements of each entry. Therefore, it’s easy to pass over sites like HBO Voyeur since they do take longer than other sites to deliver their creative goodness.
Of Get the Glass’ win, Goodby Silverstein Creative Director Will McGinness said, “This was a huge team effort and possibly one of the most exciting projects we’ve worked on. The collaboration and breadth of thinking that went into Get the Glass was nothing short of inspiring. Also, having an amazing client like CMPB was essential in creating a unique experience like this. Without their trust and enthusiasm it wouldn’t have been possible. This is a huge honor. Congrats to our Swedish friends and partners, it’s time to celebrate.”
Congratulations to Goodby Silverstein for their win. Get the Glass is great work. We just liked HBO Voyeur better. Which site would you have voted for?
