Gawker Media Acquires BooodCopy. No, Really. It’s True!

bloodcopy_gawker.jpg

Yesterday, we mentioned Gawker Media announced the acquisition of the blog BloodCopy. We also mentioned it had to be a joke. Well, it is and it isn’t. The long-running blog is part of a Campfire-created campaign for HBO’s True Blood. Since it’s inception, BloodCopy has kept in-story, increasing its fanbase of vampire culture lovers and show fans.

The “acquisition” is part of the show’s season 2 launch. As we are told, “Gawker will be keeping up the BloodCopy blog with 6 original posts a day, speaking to the vampire community, celeb gossip in the vampire world, and other Gawker-toned snippets. Campfire will be providing video content as well to keep the story going.”

We like the strategy. It’s not groundbreaking or anything but it’s sure more interesting than a bunch or BloodCopy banners slapped across the internet. OK, well, there will be those too but still. And for all those transparency freaks, here it is, plain and clear from the bottom of the BloodCopy site, “Bloodcopy is a sponsored partnership between HBO, Campfire and Gawker Media.”
