Ecko Hopes Barefaced (and Bare-Bottomed) Sexism Wins it an Audience

Some chick sent us an email just dripping with faux indignation. It was all, “Have you seen this site? There hasn’t been anything so demeaning to women in the history of the internet!” Don’t be a tease, honey, just say it: DEAR ADRANTS, PLEASE WHORE ECKO MFG.

And boy is it worthy. The job ECKO MFG tries accomplishing, with almost cheesy earnestness, is stirring drama over Ecko’s “SEXIST!!!” manufacturing practices: bikini-clad women stitching jeans together. It could be The Stepford Sweatshop — if Connecticut were ruled by frat boys and not WASPs.

Tour the PG-13 facility while the site — about as polished as any throwaway Victoria’s Secret magazine — blasts you with blatantly suggestive text: “Made with love,” “Watch our girls work their magic,” and “Blasting. Cutting. Pressing. It may sound more like an NC-17 movie but these are just a few of the steps required to make our jeans.”

Way to rock out, Ecko. A header marked “News” is also littered with a tasteful choice of handpicked clippings: “Locker Room Cat Fight,” “Unattractive Girl Sues!”

Aww. Sounds almost like the back room environment at Bebe.
