Crocs Alligator Bites Tail of Shark That Jumped It, Succeeds

crocs_scream.jpg

The beauty, and success, of Crocs shoes (no, we never owned a pair, thank God) came mostly from word of mouth and the desire to be cool because you wore strange looking shoes that squeaked. It’s sort of like the Flip Video camera which used to be packaged in those impossible-to-open, hermetically sealed plastic packages that hung from hooks in Wal-Mart until it experienced a Web 2.0, “Must. Vlog. That.”, iJustine-fueled rebirth.

But, cool factor like that doesn’t last forever and, as with most things trendy, Crocs was jumped by the shark. Not willing to bow out just yet, Crocs has launched a new Zimmerman-created ad campaign featuring, among others, Don King, who touts the shoe’s “materialistic fantastitude” with a litany of Don Kingisms. Not so bad. Who doesn’t like to watch Don King’s bellicose verbosity rail against, well, anything. He’s so kind in this spot, one might think there are no more problems in the world.

Another spot has a guy….screaming at a shoe. And screaming. And screaming. He then attempts, unsuccessfully, to tear the show apart. You’ve got to question a company that touts the fact it’s shoes, which will undoubtedly be tossed in a dump…er…transfer station at some point, are so indestructible they’ll never ever, ever decay…ever. Oh screw that PC shit. As the guys screams and tries to tear the show apart, he exclaims, “Why? Why? Why are you wearing these?” Brilliant. Trash your product to sell it.

Still not buying a pair though.
