Embrace Life PSA Wins YouTube Ad of the Year

embrace_life.jpg

If you can't watch this ad without it bringing a tear to your eye, then something is very wrong with you. Well, maybe that's just us but it is one of the best ads ever created. We're talking about the wondrous Alexander Commercials-created ad called Embrace Life for the UK's Sussex Safer Roads during which a father is saved, in tear-jerking slow motion, by his daughter and wife who take on the role of seatbelt.

The ad just won YouTube's Ad of the Year Award, besting Old Spice's I'm on a Horse.

Copyranter points out the ad came from a relative unkown and nabbed only a Bronze at Cannes. You don't have to be famous and work for a big agency to create great work.

To date, the ad has been viewed over 11 million times on YouTube.

Alec Baldwin Supports Mother's Love For Wegman's

wegmans_alec_baldwin.jpg

While the ads are not all that great...after all, they're for a grocery store...we can tell you from personal experience that Rochester, New York-based Wegman's is every bit as awesome as Alec Baldwin's mother says it is. If you recall, Baldwin appeared on Letterman and told Dave after Baldwin and one of his brothers suggested their mother relocate from Syracuse to California, Baldwin's mother's response was, "And leave Wegman's?"

Epic Burp Ruins Epic Beauty of Epic Beer Commercial

pure_blonde_epic.jpg

Almost reminiscent of the epic Carlton Draught Big Ad (which you absolutely must watch again), Clemenger BBDO is out with another epic Australian beer commercial. The ad begins with epic music accompanying an epic journey through epically beautiful Brewtopia to an epic Parthenon atop the epic Mount Utopia which offers up even more epicness like a white flying horse and epic looking pure blonde beer babes dressed in flowing white robes who serve up Pure Blonde beer.

It's all...well...epically epic. That is until one guy is epically rude and destroys every last bit of epicness with a tiny burp which turns epic as it echoes through the mountaintops until it causes the epic destruction of the previously epic Mount Utopia.

All that's left standing are the two guys, their two beers and the dress one guy ripped off the epically beautiful pure Blonde beer babe.

Epic.

Facebook Hates Breast Feeding

boobs_breastfeeding.jpg

We all know Facebook has a twisted outlook when it comes to privacy and all things related to acceptable content on its site. Writing on Work That Matters, Tom Megginson takes a close look at Facebook's stance on breastfeeding.

With a collection of images that compares the site's apparent love for the sensationalizing of large breasts and apparent disdain for a practice that simply nourishes a child, Megginson points out Facebook's seemingly twisted sense of acceptability when it comes to nudity and the female breast.

Ad Calls Attention to Paraplegia by Encasing Woman in Cement

Paraplegia_psa.jpg

An ad for Spain's TV3 promoting a telethon to raise money to fight paraplegia is the latest entry in Copyranter's Inappropriate Humor PSA category. But is it really all that inappropriate? We went to a source who should know: a friend who is a paraplegic.

She thinks the ad is very effective and told us, "I think that's a great ad because that's exactly how people feel when they can't move. Great emotional pull without being insensitive."

It's hard to imagine what life would be like without the use of one's legs or, worse, one's entire body. No ad can truly hope to emote to a fully functional four-limbed human what life would be like sitting in a chair but this ad tries.

Guys, Would You Wipe Your Face With Your Balls?

true_clean_towel.jpg

No matter how close you are to someone, you don't want to pick up a towel and wipe your face with the same part of the towel with which another has wiped their ass. That's the premise behind True Clean towel and this highlighting the disgusting alternative.

The :90 video is :60 longer than the :30 it should be but it's humorous enough. And pretty disgusting if you think about it the next time you pick up a bathroom towel. Even more disgusting is the fact the shower curtain in this video is the exact same one we have in our bathroom.

Gross. Don't get us started on shower curtains. Particularly hotel shower curtains!

Perry Reduced, ABC Sells Scenes, Brands Auctioned

katy_perry_vh1_troops.bmp

- So stupid. It seems Katy Perry's reps felt her boobs looked too big in a recent VH1 promotion for the network's Divas Salute the Troops and asked that they be digitally reduced. Um, why? What, exactly, is wrong with big breasts? Hers aren't even that big anyway. She's a 34D.

- ABC is now selling sponsorship of "scenes from next week" which run during the current week's episode.

- You've seen them before but we love these UbyKotex ads which poke fun at stereotypical feminine protection ads.

Condom Maker Does Choose Your Own Sexual Adventure

nhs_condom_no_condom.jpg

When it comes to having sex, it's all about making the right choices. So, what better way to encourage young, horny 16-24 year olds to make the right choices than by giving them the chance to experience the outcome of their choices.

Using the choose your own adventure approach, UK-based NHS Bristol and NHS Choices is out with a Omni Productions-created YouTube video campaign that follows the night time adventures of several young kids making there way through the night. Along the way, they are given various choices. Buy a condom. Don't buy a condom. have sex without a condom. Have sex with a condom.

While not displaying full nudity, the video campaign doesn't shy away from showing the heat of the sexual moment...and the consequences of making the wrong choice.

Tassimo Brewbot Recalls Citroen Transformer

tassimo_brewbot.jpg

Remember all those Transformers-themed commercials? Mini Cooper did it. Citroen did it. That got spoofed. Then Citroen did it again. And many others followed suit.

Now coffee machine maker Tassimo is bringing back the transformer robot. Which is all anyone really wants in the morning when they slog their ass into the kitchen for a cup of coffee: a dancing robot that mechanically intones, "What...can I get for you?"

I'm going back to sleep.

Starbucks Flies the Holiday Snowflakes

starbucks_snowflakes.jpg

It's that time of year again, Starbucks Lovers. Yes it is. The air is cooler. The wind is whipping. And it's time for your favorite Holiday drink from Starbucks. To make us all aware of this fact, BBDO New York is out with a new commercial touting the coffee shop's whipped sensations.

Using motif of snowflake-shaped kites, the commercial delivers that anticipation some of us love and some of us hate: the cold. That little detail aside, what Starbucks really wants us to focus on is the holidays. And who doesn't love the holidays? So go run to Starbucks right now and buy yourself a cup of holiday warmth.
