Yes! DVR Users Finally Get Their Own Ads!
If DVR users ever lament the disparity of ads made just for their kind, rest assured that prayers do get heard.
Dubbed by Audi as the world's fastest commercials, these :15 spots by Venables & Partners push the zippy new TT Roadster in a manner most trippy. The ads are blink-of-an-eye quick and according to the usual zealous PR guy, "[this is] the first time that DVR technology will be used as media - they're so quick that they can only be understood by being rewound and slowed."
Confident in their ability to mystify, the spots encourage users to rewind, then guides them back to TT-Truth.com.
Steve, getting all techie on Audi's ass, lifts an eyebrow and notes, "It's not the first time this sort of technique has been used to thwart fast forwarding, but if I was fast forwarding through this there's no way I'd even see the sped up middle part. For a DVR-friendly ad to work, it's got to have some constant that stays on the screen the whole time."
You go, Steve.
The ads are nonetheless interesting and a bit of pause/play yielded interesting images, including the cake at left. Check out spots one and two.

Um... didn't KFC make a commercial for DVR users last year... over zealous and not up to date on the marketplace.
To my memory, BBDO pioneered this technique for GE at least a year ago.

GE has also been using DVR only images at the end of every one of their ecomagination spots.
No new news here. Though if framed appropriately as not "new" is still intriguing.
